Doncaster Carers Week

9th June 2014

The week of 9th to 15th June is Carers Week 2014.  Doncaster Carers Service will be out and about in Doncaster offering support, guidance, information and registering carers on the Carers Emergency Card Scheme.

A lot of people don’t recognise themselves as carers - Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council defines a carer as: "Someone who provides unpaid support to a family member, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse issues, and the support they give impacts on their life"

There are different ways in which someone may care for someone, for instance they might: regularly visit someone to check on their wellbeing or provide company, arrange hospital / GP appointments or help with finances and bills, support with jobs like shopping, cooking, cleaning or gardening, move in short / long term to help them recuperate after an operation, help with washing / dressing / medication.

A carer is: "Someone who provides unpaid support to a family member, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse issues, and the support they give impacts on their life"

Hopefully we can help hidden carers access the services and support they are entitled to.
