Doncaster has been selected as the home of a new national high speed rail college to be based at Doncaster Lakeside. The college is set to open in 2017. Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said of the successful bid " Doncaster has always led the way in terms of cutting edge rail engineering and this decision confirms our position as the home of rail ". Doncaster has seen its rail and engineering renaissance grow this year with over 10,000 people now employed in the sector and firms having order books in excess of 1.7 billion over the next five years.
