Attention all railway buffs

20th August 2015

Departing from Doncaster is a new exhibition showing at Doncaster Museum and Art Galleries celebrating the town's rich railway heritage.

It brings together around one hundred items from the council's heritage services and Doncaster Grammar School Railway collection. Many of these items, which include locomotive nameplates, station signs, uniforms, and watercolours, have not been on display before. Also included in the display is a model of a Striling single locomotive which was built by the Great Grandson of Patrick Stirling who was the Locomotive Superintendent of GNR.

Bill Mordue, cabinet member for Business, Skills, Tourism and Culture said, "If you are looking for something to keep the children entertained there are a variety of railway games to be played, as well as a large scale railway themed mural which visitors can add to. Doncaster has a fantastic railway heritage and I would encourage everyone to come and see this exhibition over the summer."

The exhibition is on now and runs until 13th September 2015.
