Volunteer with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

29th May 2014

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's Potteric Carr Nature Reserve has started a series of practical work days for new volunteers.

The work days will be on the third Friday of every month but may become more regular depending on number of volunteers participating. People are welcome to go along and trial the sessions before committing to anything.

The sort of work a volunteer could expect to be involved in includes footpath maintenance, woodwork, invasive plant species control and reed cutting. No prior skills or knowledge are necessary as these will be taught during the sessions.

Karen McDiarmid, their Reserves Officer, said, "New volunteers should come prepared for both wet and sunny weather; this means waterproofs and sun cream! It is also really important to wear a sturdy pair of shoes as we may be going off path and be using different pieces of equipment."
